Pour a glass of your favourite tipple and cue the confetti cannons! 💍 You’ve just said “YES” to a lifetime of love and laughter (and probably some Netflix marathons in matching pyjamas). But before you sprint into the wedding planning whirlwind, let’s hit pause and take a moment to soak in your new engaged era. Here are the first five things you actually need to do after getting engaged (spoiler alert: no colour swatches required yet).

1. Take a Moment to Soak It All In

Step one: just breathe. You’re ENGAGED! Before you get caught up in any wedding madness, give yourself a moment to bask in the glory of that shiny new title - fiancé.

How good does that sound, right?

“This is my fiancé!” (Don’t worry, it never gets old).

So, go ahead, take a million selfies, throw an impromptu dance party in your living room, and revel in the “we’re doing this” excitement. Trust me, wedding planning can wait!

This moment? It’s priceless.

Pro Tip: Write down your engagement story or make a little video diary - you’ll thank yourself later when you need something to show at the anniversary party!

2. Spread the News - But Do It Your Way

Whether you’re bursting to announce your engagement with a well-crafted Insta post (featuring your perfectly manicured hand and that ring) or prefer to tell a select few over a coffee date, do it your way.

Some people love the drama of a grand social media reveal, while others prefer a more low-key approach. Whether you scream it from the rooftops or whisper it to your furbabies first, it’s your engagement, and there’s no wrong way to share it.

Just don’t forget to tell Grandma before she sees it on Facebook!

3. Enjoy Your Engaged Era - Don’t Rush into the Wedding Planning!

OK, here’s the big one! You’re going to hear this from everyone: “When’s the wedding?!” (Helpful tip: smile, nod, and redirect the conversation to anything else, like literally anything).

Here’s the thing - being engaged is a whole mood, and you should absolutely live it up. This is your time to celebrate each other, daydream about the future, and enjoy being fiancés without immediately spiralling into seating charts and colour themes.

Take a breath, book a fun getaway, or binge-watch your favourite shows - wedding planning can wait!

Your wedding will be amazing, and when you’re ready, I’ll be here to help make it unforgettable, but right now? Soak up this once-in-a-lifetime chapter.

4. Set a Budget (Before Diving into Pinterest Boards)

When you are ready to dip a toe into the planning pool, the first stop is the budget conversation.

Yep, not the sexiest part of planning the wedding of your dreams I know, but trust me knowing what you’re comfortable spending will save you from those Pinterest-fuelled dreams of getting married in front of the castle in Magic Kingdom and getting pictures with your fave Disney characters (unless that’s in the budget - then go for it!).

Start chatting about your overall budget so you can figure out how to balance your priorities - be it that epic venue, mouth-watering catering, or the most magical bouquet this side of Rivendell.

Bonus Tip: Don’t stress if you fall in love with something slightly over-budget. Together we can always make magic happen with a little creative thinking (it’s kind of my speciality, after all).

5. Start Talking Dates and Venues - But Keep It Fun!

Once you’re ready to start thinking dates, don’t panic! You don’t need to lock in a venue on day one, but it’s fun to toss around a few ideas.

Would you rather have a winter wonderland wedding (cue the faux fur and hot chocolates) or a sunny summer garden party (sunglasses and fruity cocktails, anyone)?

When it comes to venues, think outside the box! Want a Lord of the Rings - inspired woodland ceremony? A rooftop celebration with twinkly lights? The possibilities are endless. And remember, choosing your venue should feel like a fun adventure, not a stressful sprint so grab your partner/s and explore some options together!

So there you have it! The first five things to do once you’re engaged, and no, none of them involve picking out wedding florals or stationery just yet. Let yourselves live in the moment, enjoy being engaged, and when you’re ready to make that wedding magic happen, I’m just a phone call or email away.
